Hiking to El Mirador del Cerro de La Cruz in Puerto Vallarta is one of the activities that has gained popularity in recent years, thanks to social media and the increasing interest in a more healthy and in contact with nature life as a result of the pandemic.
The viewpoint has a platform from which you can see an incredible panoramic view of the entire city, that is the real reward when you reach the top.
Locals and tourists hike to the top of “El Cerro de la Cruz” hill to get a bird’s eye view of Puerto Vallarta’s historic downtown, the Church, the Hotel Zone, and sweeping views of the Bay of Banderas from this cliff top perch. The locals know of it as a place for recreation, relaxation, and meditation, and visitors love it for its perfect photography vantage point.
Getting to the top is not for the faint of heart, but it is completely worth the trek.

How to get there:
Because of its location, getting to Mirador La Cruz del Cerro is not for the faint-hearted. It’s only a 20-minute walk from the Romantic Zone in Puerto Vallarta but it’s a very steep incline. Be prepared to walk up some very steep staircases to get there. Many locals use these stairs as a place to work out as they are quite challenging.
Follow Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez Street, a straight uphill route to reach the top.
Another route is following Abasolo Street, which starts from the Malecón and works its way up.
