This new section, which is already completed, will avoid the mountainous area full of curves between Compostela and Las Varas, heading to Puerto Vallarta

The Guadalajara – Puerto Vallarta short road is a project that has been going on for just over 10 years and has been materializing in sections and, although most of them are already in operation, there are still two more to go before the road is complete.

Last January 18, during the “morning” conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jorge Nuño Lara declared that the missing section to Puerto Vallarta, from Compostela to Las Varas, Nayarit, would come into operation next April. Originally, it had been reported that this road would be completed at the beginning of 2024.

This road is made up of 31 kilometers and has had setbacks in its work due to the release of rights of way and obtaining environmental permits.

In recent days it was learned that this section has already been completed and delivered by the concessionaire to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) for inspection.

The newspaper Tribuna de la Bahía cited Gabriel Camarena Morales, head of the legal department of the Government of Nayarit, who reported that the construction of the Compostela – Las Varas section is being inspected by the authorities to verify that it complies with the safety requirements for its implementation.

“Las Varas – Compostela is practically 100% finished, a bridge known as ‘Las Truchas’ was presented, which was a very important civil engineering challenge, the voussoirs are already finished and from there, the concessionaire delivers it to you to carry out tests to the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), these tests are carried out so that national and international safety standards in the traffic and transit of goods and people are effectively complied with,” the official revealed for the publication.

It has even been noted that it could be ready for the next Holy Week and Easter holiday period, which begins on March 25 to April 5 of this year, although the information is not yet official.

Currently, another section of 32.2 kilometers is under construction, which will reduce the transfer time by 25 minutes and will connect the San Vicente Interchange directly with the Puerto Vallarta International Airport.

When will there be time to Vallarta with the short route?

The short route to Puerto Vallarta is a highway that not only benefits the coastal municipality of Jalisco, but the entire Bay of Banderas, which also includes the territory of the Rivera Nayarit, a tourist spot of great importance in the country. For this reason, the completion of the project is important to stimulate economic activity in the region.

According to the AEBBA Business Association, the travel time on the short route to Puerto Vallarta, from Guadalajara, will be only 2 hours and 45 minutes; although some claim that it could be slightly less. The total distance is 186.6 kilometers in length and will have a division of three road sections.

That is to say, from the 5 hours currently taken, on a 333-kilometer journey, the time and distance would be considerably reduced.
