An Eventful Place, Puerto Vallarta

Many events take place in beautiful Puerto Vallarta and they are as diverse as they are fascinating. We were astonished to hear bagpipes as we walked the pup down the Malecón on a recent evening. The International Festival of Celtic Music had chosen our quaint Mexican city as the site for their annual gathering. The Los Angeles Fife and Drums Corps attracted a huge audience of foot-tappers and jiggers in March, sharing a culture ordinarily uncommon to the area.

The British Isles is not the only contributor to our varied and exciting music scene. In December of this past year, Puerto Vallarta/Banderas Bay hosted three days of classic rock from both the United States and Mexico that included Hollywood stars and legendary DJ’s. Groups who appeared were Kansas, Foghat, rock legends Lou Gramm of Foreigner, Sam Moore of Sam and Dave fame, guitar virtuoso Carlo Vohl, as well as members of the Monkees and Little Feat.

Puerto Vallarta is very proud of her Convention Center. With seventeen meeting rooms, the largest being over 7000 square feet and a well appointed business center, it’s the perfect location for conferences. With a capacity for over 6000 people accommodated in the indoor areas and more than 21,000 encompassed on the grounds outdoors, the possibilities for national and international groups are tremendous. Conferences such as the World Economic Forum on Latin America and the World Immigration Congress have been held at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center. An abundance of hotels in the immediate vicinity add to a very logical choice.

Puerto Vallarta International Birding Festival, observing over 300 species of birds and hosted by the Vallarta Bird Conservancy is an annual May event. With expert authorities guiding nature walks and giving lectures, the city is a hub for advanced birders and international bird specialists.

Also in mid-May is the Puerto Vallarta International Sports Classic in its 26th Anniversary, a venue including basketball, golf, ultimate Frisbee, soccer; attracting professionals and amateurs, adults and children.

There are so many great celebrations going on in Puerto Vallarta, it’s not always easy to find time for them all but we won’t miss the annual Vallarta Pride festival, now in its third year. Starting May 17th and including visitors from the US, Canada, Asia, Russia and Europe, it promises to be a fabulous couple days with music, parties, fashion shows, and a beautiful mass commitment ceremony.

Somehow we also manage to fit music and theater into our busy schedule and encourage you to mark your calendars for all the great summer entertainment!

Que es cómo es.
