1st Garbage Fishing Tournament Seeks to Clean the Sea of Banderas Bay
Did you know that 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into the oceans every year, and that by 2050 our seas could contain more plastic than fish if we do not take immediate action?
The environmental conservation organization Limpia tu Mar announced the first Puerto Vallarta 2024 International Garbage Fishing Tournament, which will take place on October 20 in the waters of Banderas Bay.
The main objective of this excellent initiative is to remove, classify, and recycle at least one ton of solid waste from the sea while raising awareness among the population about the serious consequences of poor waste management in coastal areas.
In addition, it seeks to make the problem visible through social networks and a photographic exhibition addressing the issue of marine pollution.
The first Puerto Vallarta 2024 International Garbage Fishing Tournament has the collaboration of businessmen, hotels, NGOs, and tourism service providers, among other important supports.
How to Participate
Join this great, unprecedented event with a great cause: our oceans!
Date: October 20, 2024
Location: Los Muertos Pier
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Teams must be at the Pier at 8:00 a.m. to board their boat.
Donation Cost: $4,000.00 pesos per team.
These funds will be used to continue our work to clean up our sea. The starting flag will be given at 9:00 a.m. sharp, carried out by our Tournament Ambassador, Stephanie Montero Bending, who swam around Banderas Bay in 6 stages, swimming with a cause in favor of the conservation of the humpback whale and the marine ecosystems of the Jalisco-Nayarit region, called “Swim for Whales 2024”.

Categories in the event:
There are 3 categories for types of waste, which will be:
- Recyclable waste (pet)
Non-recyclable waste (styrofoam, plastic bags, etc.)
Bulky waste (ice boxes, refrigerators, etc.)
The waste that is being collected by each team must be separated by bags at the time of capturing it.
Who will win?
The team that collects the most waste. These will be weighed at the end of the tournament.
Prizes:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will receive hotel nights, day passes, breakfasts, canopy tours, etc. as prizes. It is required that you can also participate as a volunteer or sponsor. Register! Limpia tu Mar Puerto Vallarta AC is a civil organization founded in 2022 that is dedicated to cleaning up the sea and beaches, as well as raising awareness and educating the population about the correct management of waste and its reduction.
